Description

SS-31, known in clinical work as elamipretide, is a tetrapeptide: D-Arg-2′,6′-dimethylTyr-Lys-Phe-NH2. Four residues, alternating cationic and aromatic side chains, net charge +3 at neutral pH.

The alternation lets the peptide bind cardiolipin, the phospholipid concentrated in the inner mitochondrial membrane, through two interactions at once: the aromatic side chains insert into the acyl chains while the cationic residues hold the anionic phosphate head groups. Reported affinity is an nKD near 2.9 µM, where n counts lipid molecules bound per peptide.

The targeting needs no carrier sequence. SS-31 crosses the plasma membrane in an energy-independent, non-saturable manner and concentrates at the inner mitochondrial membrane by a reported factor of 1000 to 5000. Researchers choosing it over a conventional mitochondria-targeted construct are usually choosing to avoid a targeting tag and its confounders.

Published work has measured membrane surface electrostatics, mitochondrial protein interaction landscapes, respiration in disease models, and interactions with alpha-synuclein aggregation.

Supplied as a lyophilised powder at ≥99% purity by HPLC, with batch LC-MS identity confirmation and a certificate of analysis. Reconstitute with bacteriostatic water. Store the sealed vial at -20°C and keep reconstituted solution at 2-8°C, protected from light.

For in-vitro laboratory research only. Not for human or veterinary use.

We supply these products for in-vitro laboratory research only. They are not medicines, BPOM has not evaluated them, and no one should use them on humans or animals. Once you reconstitute a vial, keep it refrigerated at 2–8°C and use it within about four weeks. Store unmixed vials cool and out of direct light.

Frequently asked questions

What is SS-31?

SS-31 (elamipretide) is a mitochondria-targeted tetrapeptide that binds cardiolipin. Researchers study it in mitochondrial-function research.

What is SS-31 studied for?

Researchers examine its effects on mitochondrial energy production and oxidative stress. These are laboratory findings only.

Is SS-31 lab-tested?

A U.S. laboratory verifies every batch for purity, identity, and peptide content using HPLC and LC-MS analysis. We deliver securely across Bali and accept all major payment methods.

How do I store it?

Reconstitute the lyophilised powder with bacteriostatic water, store it refrigerated at 2–8°C, and use it within about four weeks. Keep unmixed vials cool and out of direct light.
